It was a 64 Corvette; Silver Coupe w/ side pipes. I bought it after returning from Vietnam in 1967. Less than two years later, I was on my way back to Nam.
I was young and it was a very turbulent time in my life. Selling it was the easy way out because my family always hassled me about it. I just could not figure out a way to hang on to it.
I have regretted it ever since.

Well, Im fairly young (32) but here's a few of my many past toys - These were probably the most fun besides the 2002 C5 Coupe which I sold to get my C3...
This would have to be the one that got away - I was 16 and paid $2200 for it - all bondo but fun as hell!!
Blew the motor up on this one
some others...

OH, isn't that funny, same story, 'cept going to 'nam.....
My first car was a '60 vette, sold it after wrecking it....paid a grand for it, sold with bent frame for 250 bux....
dad didn't really give a tschidt....mom would NOT shut up....
but what finally turned the decision of the vette going was the freaking INSURANCE rate hike...even though I didn't have any comp/collision to claim on.....

Hmmmm ...
I never actually sold any of my cars.
I have basically driven them to the end of their useful lifetimes.
I am getting better. My DD is now 16YO (13 with me) and pushing 300k miles.
I am getting worse, too. There are currently 4 non-running
cars in my driveway ... and two trucks parked in the woods (one runs).
Time to clean up.

I have three that I should have kept. Probably could retire on the sale of the three.
1. 1953 Buick Skylark Conv. Paid $150 in 1959, sold for $1500 in 1961. Worth now over $100K in show condition.
2. 1957 Desoto Adventurer. 345 HP 345 CI Hemi. Paid $1800 in 1962, sold for $2100 in 1963. Now worth at least $45k.
3. Worst deal I ever made. 1957 Chrysler 300C Conv. Paid $1300 in 1965, Traded even for a new Oldsmobile 442 in 1967. Car is worth at least $100K in show condition. They only made 484 Convertibles and less than 50 remain today.
The Mopars were real top speed demons. The only problem was when you opened both 4 barrels, you could just about see the gas gauge drop. Sure was a hoot to see the speedometer in the Desoto (solid red line at 160 indicated) hit the end. Probably 20 mph fast, but even 140 was pushing it on early 60's tires.
Youth knows no fear!

Sometimes I wonder where my '92 Camry V6 XLE is these days... Sorry, that's the only other thing I've owned! It was a really nice car though... in a difference sense than Corvettes are "nice"
-Chris
My dad however... sold '69 Chevelle, Camaros, WW2 ****** Cj2a (his first car) etc. to buy a Honda Accord when I was born! My mother also lost her Galaxie 500 around the time of their marriage also. Fortunately my girlfriend accepts that I will choose the Vette over the well being of my children

The car I regret selling the most(and 10yrs ago had a chance to buy it back)was this car I owned from '78-'84. It was a '67 Chevelle SS L-78 396/375hp, one of ONLY 612 built in 1967. Car was a bare bones street racer-no power steering, no power brakes, AM radio, bench seat, M-20 4spd w/3.31:1 gears. Bought in '78 with 42,000 original miles, sold in '84 with 51K miles. Had original motor, tranny, etc., even original paint when I first bought it. A nut & bolt resto car like these are bringing $60K and higher Have read a few articles that have said "less than 40 known '67 L-78 Chevelles exist today"

Some of you are old enough to remember when you could buy a perfectly good 65' Mustang for $500.00 That's what I sold mine for... wish I had that one back.
And the first car I owned... a 68' Camaro that I bought for $1000.00 and sold a year later for $1200.00. No dents...new paint, tires, but NOOOOOOO.... I had to turn it for a $200.00 profit.

I am embarrassed to admit it. '78 Alfa Romeo Spider. I had this at the same time that my aunt and uncle had an '81 and and an '84 respectively. My uncle still has the '81 that he would give me for about 500 bucks, but the guys on this forum have talked me out of another restoration. This picture is very close to what I had.

From a U.K. perspective, mine was a 1963 Mini Cooper S which I had in the early 70's. My old Man had a body shop so we put it through there. It was originally had a 1071cc engine but I changed it out for a 970cc unit bored out to 999cc with a straight cut gearbox, which came out of a friends crashed circuit racer. A slightly milder cam and a change of carb from split 40 dco webbers to twin 1.5" S.U. were the only concessions to road use. I used this as a daily driver and competed in hillclimbs and sprints (Autocross to you guys). THe 970 engine was a 'screamer', with mine the power came in at 5000rpm and it would rev to 10,000. It was just about driveable between 3000 and 5000, but kind of off cam. A completely freaky road car in those days, but what fun!

This thread should be called - What the hell were you thinking? I hope I never hear myself say the words " had one just like it " " I should have never of sold it " They will have to pry my cold hands off my car before I give it up

My dad sold his '69 Camaro when I was four (due to the "gas crisis") for 1800 bucks. I still give him hell about that.
Also, I am still looking for the '72 Corvette that my uncle had when I was a kid. Pewter/black coupe. He sold it to a woman in Austin around 1980.

1969 Mach 1 428SCJ 4 speed with drag pack,Black on black.Perfect contition because it was just a tad over a year old when I bought it.I still know where the car is and it's always taking best in show or some other award.Still makes a few 1/4 mile passes.Still wish I had it.
