Can someone tell me if there is a good comprehensive book / DVD / video available that will give me complete and accurate istructions on the procedure to remove the body of my 1971 Corvette coupe off its frame?
Nolan Adams has a video of prepping a 63 Vette for lifting the body. The C2s and C3s are very similar except for body cosmetic differences. I lifted the body off my 78 Vette after watching this video and using his workbook's checklist. The video is old, but has a lot of useful information in it. I got mine from Ecklers.
It is relatively easy to do- you will need the lifting straps that all the major 'Vette specialty catalogues have. The hardest part is getting the 10 bolts that hold the body to the frame ( and various & sundry wiring harnesses, shifter and p-brake thingies) off. I had to torch off a couple of the #3 body bolts (you must be really careful so as not to light the whole car on fire!), but the lifting itself is pretty straightforward.
I asked a similar question about my 69, the following is a reply I got.
"You want Bizzoco's "1969 Stingray Guidebook." It's thicker than each of those listed and it concentrates essentially on the 69 model with technical detail you'll be hard pressed to find in other books."
It is out of print so I had a hard time finding it, finally did at CranesCorvette 1-800-597-4132, cost 69.95 plus shipping but from the reviews it sounds like it will be worth it.

There is a lot of common sense involved in removing the body. I believe there is a website that has a checklist of things t remove before lifting the body, but if you have any mechanical sense you will know what to look for as you work on the car. My son (Bubba in training) and I (Master of Bubba degree) removed the body on our 79 without much trouble. The body mount bolts, like all of the other bolts on these old cars, are the hardest things to deal with. As you lift the body SLOWLY, look for ground straps, wires, etc. that you may have forgotton to remove. A forgotten gound strap can lift the chassis off the ground (ask me how I know!)
