Default Carb Spacer Advice?

I have been running a 2" 4 hole spacer with a 750 Holley on a Edelbrock RPM air Gap manifold. I swithed to a 1" open plenum type but it seems I lost a little punch in the off idle acceleration. Any advice?

Makes perfect sense. You were sucking air through those individual holes in the spacer, so you had a fairly high air velocity through the carb and into the runners at idle. That helps to keep the fuel droplets in suspension. Now you have a big open chamber under the carb. Air velocity at idle is lower, and I would bet the fuel is not staying in suspension as well. An open chamber spacer like that is great at high rpm, but hurts the low rpm.

I have an air/fuel ratio meter and I noticed that when I gun it, it briefly goes lean. It did not do that before. I will purchase a couple of jet sizes up and play with it a bit. I like the low end punch for around town but would like to pick the top end some as the car will see some track time as well. Thanks!!

What hood are you running? Just wondering because I plan to put an air gap RPM on mine with no spacer and figure to only have about 3/8" between air cleaner cover and hood.

The 1972 has a wiper door and a lower profile hood than does post 72 models. The best I could do with my stock hood was an Edelbrock Performer Air gap with a drop base cleaner. As you can see from my pictures, I got real tired of under hood restriction problems an put on a 5" cowl induction type hood. Another thing the cowl did was lower the under hood temps by letting the compartment breathe better and as a result the cockpit is cooler as well.
