I am thinking of change out the factory gauges in the center of my 75 I poseted a pic of my idea in another thead. I was looking at autometer gauges but I noticed that summit has there own brand for cheaper. I am on a budget. How are the summit gauges has anyone used them any advice would be appriciated thanks
Digital gauges were popular in the '80s, but people soon tired of them. Why? Because they don't provide "at a glance" info the same way that analog gauges do. You brain has to process the numeric info into something meaningful. If a needle on a gauge is too low or too high, however, your brain instantly recognizes that something is wrong.
I have no first hand experience with Summit gauges but I have bought numerous Summit brand products and been very happy with their cost and quality except their bolts, they suck.
I'm running a couple of summit gauges in my 69 GTO (2-5/8" water temp and oil pres). The guages work great and are very easy to read in the day time, BUT the lighting at night time is poor. I can see all of the numbers easily, but the needle does not get illuminated by the back lighting and is very difficult to see.
Yeah, all planes made in the 70's. Almost all new aircraft (military wise) have glass cockpits. There may be 1 or 2 dial type guages for standby instruments because they dont run off of computers but that's it.
.....That's why airplanes still use analog gauges...
I work in avionics. Modern aircraft use "analog looking" displays that are digitally drive from the computer system. They use colored arcs which the eye picks up very well. If the indication is in a "warning zone" the arc can change color and even flash.

Hmmm, maybe this is why I had to cut 2 of the 6 stainless Summit collector bolts to get them off last fall....
