Well I got the stupid thing unstuck with out much problem and Lars sent me his paper on how to install it the correct way but im still having an issue. Right now I am just trying to get the dist. to seat fully without worrying about position of anything. I just want to see that thing go all the way in.... but this is as far as it will go and this is the furthest it has gone in yet:
What do I need to do? Im pretty sure it has gone into the oil pump thing at the bottom but im just getting so mad at this project.... any help is welcome.
The only thing that keeps the distributor that far out is the oil pump drive. When you install the distributor it turns a few degrees so you have to anticipate that when you line up the slot in the shaft. Joe
with it in the position shown, bump or roll the engine slightly, and it will fall in
I tryed that last night and is got all jamed up and i had all kinds of problems. plus a few of the guys said that bumping it is a bad idea. i may try turning the engine by had and see what happens. im willing to try anything at this moment.

yea i know about the oil pump thing but this is a far as i can get it to go down i have moved the rotor around and around and around again and this is as far as it will go, if it is still the oil thing in the way then i have no clue what to do. i've have been at this for 3 days now and still nothing i know it can't be this hard.
I did the lars method, keep backing off a tooth until you find it... eventually it's gotta happen! You do have the gear on there right side up correct? Picture courtesy of summit racing's website....
I ended up doing mine because the pins that the weights fit on were fairly rusty... broke one taking the weights off! (which were frozen up pretty well) Fortunately I had a second distributor and just replaced the whole shaft. Two bad distributors = one good one
Okay, its a good thing you guys ask the dumb questions becouse yes i do have the gear on upside down well i guess i won't have a problem getting it in now..thanks guys for asking about that. man i feel stupid. thanks alot guys.
Hey, "no Biggie"..........sometimes we all do those kinda things & because we think we know it's right, we don't even think twice that it may be wrong. "NOW........get 'er runnin'!"
