I have a manual shift 69 coupe with a bad frame, I have found a good frame from a 69 automatic roadster. Can someone tell me the difference between these frames? I believe the trans crossmembers are different. Has anyone done this before, I need to know what to do to make it work.
The frame is the same. you will have to weld in a bracket for the clutch pivot arm (use the one off bad frame). The removeable cross member will work just fine with your 4-speed.
You can get a new clutch pivot bracket from Zip Products for about $15. I bought one several months ago, but I had to wait a few weeks before they could get more in stock. Make sure that you get the weld on type, and not the bolt on type. The bolt on type is really thin metal. I ended up buying both and was able to compare them.
With the auto frame, you will have the advantage of the removable crossmember which comes in handy if you ever have to pull your trans. Also make sure the replacement frame is 69 or later because of the way the kickup is gussetted. Makes for a stronger frame.
