Go for the upgraded 290 hp version. It has a better cam and some better internals. Only a couple hundred bucks more.

yeah, i saw that one. but it is listed for 79 and older. sooner or later the smog ****, tree huggers will be after everybody. i was thinking i could get some good performance out of the 260 motor with better heads.

Same motor, different cam and internals. But it's very, very similar to the L82 engine originally put in these cars. Paint it blue, plug it in, hook up the smog stuff, and no one's gonna know the difference. You can do some smog legal heads later (and yes, Viriginia, they do exist!)

Yes, there is a good reason you shouldn't get that engine.

Because it isn't as big as you can go

Just suck it up and buy the 760cc Commando. You know you want to.

Shoot, anything would be better than what I've got 180hp? Maybe we should both get one, but I don't have any extra heads lying around to make it go fast.

If you're going to use your heads instead of there's, why not just buy a short block. It should be cheaper. The $ difference should help pay for reworking the heads a little.
