Translucent Blue Powder Coating over chrome, Pics
Here is a thermostat housing that we done in translucent blue. We have also done a set of valve covers and a timing chain cover, I am also thinking of taking my intake off and doing it to. The pics do not do it justice. I posted this in jughead's post on clear coating his intake but I thought everyone might want to see this. They are coming up with some amazing powders these days. We even found some 1400 degree powder coating for my headers, don't know how it will hold up but I am gona try it and see. It is 30 bucks for 2lbs pretty cheap if it works, 2lbs will do alot of headers.

We usually order off of e-bay but we have bought from columbia coatings (high temp.). I will have to look and see were my buddy bought the translucent blue from, they also have red and gold in translucent to I think, they may even have more colors now.

oregansharkman: we have bought a powder-coating set up from Harbor Freigh its not as good as the high dollar machines but it works for what we do with it. The machine has a lead that you conect to the part you are coating to apply the charge.
guppie: we have the Harbor Freight machine (cost 59 bucks).
That looks ! How do you prep the chrome prior to powder coating? Can you powder coat in your home oven? Does it smell bad? I'm wondering if I did bake a powder coated piece in the morning whether or not the house would smell when everyone got home that night?!?! Maybe what she doesn't know won't hurt her! (Don't tell her I said that!)

Not2New72: It won’t hurt the oven but I would not due it in the house due to the smell. I am not sure how long it would take for the smell to go away. It does not stink but it is not your ordinary home fragrance either. My buddy sprayed it I will have to ask him on the prep.
From: Sometimes I wonder... why is that frisbee getting bigger? Then it hits me.

jimiscnc: we have been using this Harbor Freight machine for 7 or 8 months now and have not had any problems with it. The only problem we see is when changing colors it is very hard to get the gun 100% clean so as not to have cross contamination with the colors, we have also learned that you do not put more than about 1" of powder in the holding cup or it will put out to much powder at one time.

COMMANDER370 I missed your post earlier. Right now me and my buddy are working 7 days a week so we have not been doing much coating. We are not experts but if you don't mind a little imperfection every once in a while then I am sure we could throw some parts in with mine, it would be no problem at all.
