Default HOOD PINS?? (pics?)

Anyone have hood pins on their c3?

I am definately getting some, as I think that for a couple bucks, it looks like you have a total muscle/race car. It doesn't hurt that they are nicely functional too.

Anyway, any pics out there for me to look at before I order?

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Bryan

I believe most people here will call it Bubba and tasteless, but I have a later hood that I'm working on (stinger scoop with cowl induction) that I don't have latching hardware for. I did get some hood pins and ran the hood for a while. I liked it but have put my original hood back on until I complete the work on the hood.

Sorry, I don't have any pics.

I can't imagine taking the drill to the hood. Same reason I haven't put on the luggage rack I was given.

Just my opinion but when I see them I usually assume that the owner was too lazy to fix the originals.

Mine came with them already on it as the hood latches and cable were missing. I have reapired them and cut the pins so they are not functional and are just bolted to the hood to cover the holes. They will not stay though.

Because of the way the Corvette hood opens, hood pins are really not necessary. A conventionally opening hood could fly up and block the drivers vision at speed.

I have 4 pins on my L88 hood. I like them.
2 in front, 2 in back I pull all 4 and the hood is off.

I had to make a bracket for the front pins but the back pins screw right into the hood latch.

I did this because my hood doesn't have a frame, thus no latch or hinge hardware.

I was thinking of going with the ones that lock with a key so they are more flush mount.

Got some bad feedback on them from some members so still up in the air.

I have them on my Geo Tracker, because hood wont latch without them and I will not pay to buy a new latch. But on a corvette they just don't make sense unless you put them in all four corners and just completely remove the hood when you open it!

This sounds like a good idea, but where do you put the hood once it is off?

At home it hangs on the wall with 2 pins.

If I'm out I can slide it under the car( on a blanket)

If you are going to add them to a vette hood, use four on an aftermarket hood. Once you drill those holes, it'll be impossible to repair them later. I've seen show cars where they add 2-3 foot pin extensions and the hood hovers above the motor on display. Joe

woh! I don't think anything would fit under my car, and if it did, the exhaust would fry it anyway!

I agree, unless you're doing the 4-corner pin, no frame thing as part of an overall weight-saving thing, this is Bubba to the extreme. That goes for everything in the PepBoys Chrome Crap aisle.

I guess the locking hood pins would work with the vett, Since if they come loose the hood won't fly off. But in a normal situation those pins are not to be used to hold the hood down. they only turn 90 degrees and are well known for rotating loose. look at the box, they even state that them selves.

I am trying to figure a way to hinge the hood more at the front so the front edge does not open and move closer to the radiator. I have some important crap infront of the radiator.

Some years ago the ONLY hood pins I could reasonable fine were just chrome steel, and every damn pair I saw on a car were in some stage of RUST, and so looked like crap....

SO, I went to a marine/boat place....Boat US, comes to mind...and bought 1/2 inchx6" long Stainless bolts, nuts, and clevis pins, and fender washers....
cut the head off the bolts, and rounded it too bullett shape, and did the obvious...worked like a charm....

they were on a '70 Lemans/GTO convertible I had...

I think hood pins are o.k. looking so long as the rest of the car has the race "look" too. I wouldn't want them if the rest of the car was otherwise stock looking.
