Default Tech: Question about intake gaskets...

Hello,

I have a question about FelPro 1205 intake gasket set. Actually two questions.

FelPro has the blue ring around all the ports...do I still need to use RTV around the water ports?

They don't have a steel/aluminum plate in the set that will block off the heat crossover opening. Can these be purchased? If not, what thickness and material would be best to use to make a set?

Thanks,
Jeff

What size ports do you have? The 1204 is blocked but only 1.99 x 1.23, the 1266 has 2.21 x 1.31 ports and is also blocked. I have used small peices of sheet metal in the past but decided to get some that had the blocked crossover this time.

I have the Sportsman ll cylinder heads...they recommend the 1205 gasket set. The 1205's fit the Sportsman ll's perfect as far as the openings go. On my previous engines I always got a set of the blockoff plates with the intake set...

Anyone have an extra set of blockoffs laying around?

Thanks,
Jeff

I would--just a skim coating though. Don't go crazy with it. A little on the head, a little on the gasket. Lay down the gasket and put another skim on the top of the gasket and around the water ports of the intake. Let it get a little tacky then install the manifold.

There are Fel-Pro intake gaskets that block the crossover without those little metal plates--The holes just aren't punched. I use them on my engine but I can't remember the part number right now. It MIGHT be 1206 but don't quote me on it.

It would be odd if Felpro did not make a version of the 1205 with blocked crossover, the gaskets I refered to do not have a hole at all so no alu peices to deal with.

Now I feel really stupid... :o I went and checked my intake gaskets and found that I was looking at the wrong gasket set. I just threw the stock intake set up in a cabinet so I don't do something stupid and try and install them on the wrong engine.

The 1205's DO NOT have an open crossover.

Thanks for the help, sorry for wasting your time.
