Here's another one from Gator454.....does it make any sense to you guys?
Unfortunately, the J.C. Whitney website does not list this part number (ZX122370A), and a search through the 155 items Whitney lists under 'wiper delay' and 'intermittent wiper' shows nothing similar to this part number.
A Google search of this part number turns up a number of entries from people looking for delay wipers, but no one selling this part. As this is the basis of this schematic, it doesn't seem necessary to spend more time on it.
Just happened across this thread and saw your question. Answer is no out of sync but they do return to home position after each pulse unlike factory setups that keep the wipers in the "prepared to swipe" position. It causes no problem for me, just not "factory" like. No out of sync issues.... it's simply automatically initiating wipers to on position then off. If I have the factory lever in fast mode they operate in a timed swipe in a fast swipe, slow is a slow swipe speed. Hope this answers your question. BTW, thanks for being such an active and helpful Supporting Vendor to our great forum. I know many of us appreciate you.
Best regards,
Jim
Red LED illuminates when pulse activates.
Thank you for the kind words Jim, it's been my pleasure.
Since the wipers are parking there won't be any issue with the timing.
We have one ready to go that will operate like the original style delay wipers but the timing was the issue for us and I've kind of left it on the cooker to play with other projects (temp resistors and other fun stuff). Bobby (my guy here) and I have a few other idea's for the timing and we'll get back to it soon.
I installed a 78-82 C3 intermittent wiper system into my 77, using the new Lectric Limited solid state module. This unit eliminates relays and is much reliable than the original 35+ year old piece. To fo this:
1) get the wiper motor cover from a 78-82 equipped with intermittent wipers. These are not reproduced, they are not common, but they are available. They can be identified by the red/pink wire coming out of the front. They will fit any 73 and up motor.
2) get a 78-82 intermittent switch. The graphics changed during the period, but the switch remains the same internally. This unit is long and has a curved face. I modified mine to have a flat face by sanding it down on a flat plate (slotted to accomodate the switch handle). I also removed the cavity that held the illuminating bulb, to shorten it.
3) Get the two connectors that fit onto the switch. These will have ro come from salvage
4) Purchase a module. They all seem to be similar inside, but the wiring & connectors changed in 1980. I bought one for an 82 because I was using that wirirn schematic as a guide. If you order from Willcox and use his discount, it's a bit over $100. Then cut off the connector off of the module and discard. Strip the ends of the remaining pigtails and get ready to solder.
5) (Perhaps this should have been earlier in the list) PM me for a table showing what gets hooked to where. On my 77, I was able to use existing wires going through the firewall. All my wiring was inside the cabin (except for the red/pink wire on the motor cover - this connected to the negative side of the washer pump motor, under the hood).
I mountrd the switch in the console in the hole previously used by the rear window defogger. The defogger switch moved over to occupy a part of the larger hole from the hearer/AC, next to the controls for my Vintage Air system. If anyone wants pics of this, PM me with your email
Rotonda......sounds like you did a good job on the installation!
I'm still wondering about my 1968 wipers....being a rookie I would wonder if I could adapt a later-year wiper motor that has the delay function built in (and store the original '68 motor in the attic?).
The previous owner installed an aftermarket long hood so I don't have to worry about the wiper door....
The wiper switch on a 76 is located on the center console located above the vents and not on the steering column. I would like something stock-like but better functionality as shown in previous posts.
Any more info on using the 555 timer with the controller **** installed in the center console like gator454? Anyone come up with another solution? Revolution has a module but it won't work with wipers that park.

I've ordered a few boards that look like it will do what I want. Looks like it will work w/ the parking wipers.
Basically wires between the low speed wire- used a potentiometer that has a on/off w/ a LED. Put the wipers on low speed -and it will be continuously variable from 3 seconds to 30 delay.
Did a little research-bench tested mine and here's what I found-
"wipe-wipe-pause-wipe-wipe-pause" It won't park every time but like every two swipes.
I just ordered the boards- look similar to the JC Whitney one-
My thoughts for keeping the motor from parking would be a delay relay- sort of like this Hella relay I have - could set the relay to more than 30 or so seconds delay- keeping them from parking...but wouldn't park till 30 seconds after you turned them off....
As soon as I get them I'll follow up-
Richard
Hella programmable delay relay
JC Whitney-
The ones I ordered-have to add wires to the potentiometer-
Had to pull my wiper motor out of the car this weekend to fix another issue and got me thinking about this modification again... Any more progress been made on the fix? Revolution Electronics module will not function with parking wipers. Well.. they will work but will park each time plus their unit is very $$$$
seems like it should not be too difficult since the ground connection changing determines.. low..high..park
i know enough about electronics to not get electrocuted.. well.. sometimes
I have the boards- however they are still sitting on the bench....
At the beginning of this summer- I jumped in my 73 to drive 3000 miles on the Hotrod Power Tour- 2/3's through the trip (2000 miles) a connecting rod was making way too much noise and had the car flat bedded home.
So I pulled the pan and saw the damage - and it's still sitting!!! New engine time!!!
Decided to get the 71 back together - after having to drop the transmission again because of a bad hyd line- Right now custom making an interior - so I really haven't messed w/ the delay board!!!
Oh yeah- also got the girlfriends house sold- moved all her stuff in- had my hardwood floors done plus had to UN-batchlorise my house.

It's still on my list....

Not to change the subject because I am interested in this intermittent wiper mod BUT... Richard, you still making the connectors for the electric headlight mod? A friend of mine at work and I are interested in doing the conversion... Thanks, Tony

So... I have my wiper motor out of the car and fixed the issue with the internal relay resistor. Now that I know more about how my wiper motor wiring works I was thinking about working on the intermittent modification. I could swear I had another wiper switch for testing but cant find it..
Now I need another wiper switch (not taking the one from inside the car.. too much of a pain in the ***..) and been looking at the available options for setting the delay.
Anyone want to donate a known-to-be working switch for a 76 to the cause?
I finally put intermittent wipers into my 77. I based them on the 82 C3 wipers. I started with the replacement Lectric Limited solid state replacement module. I connected it to a 78-82 switch, put in the 78-82 wiper cover (with red wire coming from it to tell module the position of wiper arms), wired it with period salvaged connectors and an 82 schematic.
I sanded down the curved switch plate so it is flat and shortened the switch body by amputating the light socket. I mounted the switch in the console plate in the slot for the rear window defogger (the rear window defogger switch joined the 3 **** Vintage Air control in the cutout that originally contained the stock HVAC controls). It looks factory and works well, with high, low, intermittent, pulse/mist and washer functions. The original 77 motor was retained and the turn signal lever still controls turn signals and high/low beams, though not the wipers any longer.
