I know this topic gets beat to death but I’m looking for what would be the best value. My ’79 is 100% stock but I’m thinking about going to a true dual exhaust, since my rear Y-pipe is leaking anyway. Emission testing is not an issue since the car is tagged with historic plates and is exempt from inspections. I’m not too hung up on appearances, since the rest of the engine bay looks 25 years old. The ceramic-coated headers seem a little pricey so I’d like to hear how the standard finishes hold up. It seems that Hooker Hedman and Dynomax are the big players in this market. Fit, durability and head sealing are primary concerns.

I had black painted hooker headers on a different car/engine (not the vette) and the finish held up okay. The paint burns most the way off, but I never had much of a rust issue. It was on my daily driver I had for 10 years. Only the collectors rusted out once, just took it to muffler shop and they took care of that.
Just put Heddman Elite hedders with the thermal coating one mine Jegs sells them for $264.99. The only interference problem I have is the idler arm just touches one pipe. A small dimple there and no more problems. I like the collector arrangement, no gaskets to deal with.
Overall I'm real pleased with them
hey i'm interested in this question too but for different reasons. i need to know which aftermarket headers you guys have seen that have good ground clearance. everybody is into the dynomax here but where do they fit? does anybody have a header where the collector is no lower than the bottom of the oil pan?
Have Dynomax ceramic headers on mine, and love them. No clearance problems nor leaks , even with a manual clutch linkage. They are also quite durable .... been thru several oil leaks, on & off several times, and hit with wrenchs (thanks to loosening alternator several times, working on power steering pump, and steering linkage). Have to say for the money, they've been great. They look great and don't perform too bad either .
Depends on where you are going with it. Err like nobody stands still with a C3! Hedman are good but if you are thinking of going to Steeroids you may want to go to Dynomax Blackjacks or Ceramics since the others require 'denting or even more. I believe that Jeggs sell Black Jacks at around 4150 and Ceramics at about $250
have got to come back here in that I believe that better breathing breeds horsepower and if you have good headers abd ia good inlet sytem, then you can gain huge horsepower gains with no cam problems. So if you are interested in HP go for the best headers. Simple!
