Anyone know of a good site detailing the procedure for adjusting windows on a ragtop. I just had the top replaced today, they wanted 200 bucks to adjust the windows, since my new door panels are "in the mail" I decided to try this myself.
Pick up a copy of the AIM (Assembly Manual). My '69 has a good step by step description of how to adjust the windows. You'll have to allow for the fact that the factory also adjusted the weather striping at the same time.
If so, the proper way to do it is adjust the glass to the hardtop and the softtop to the glass. I got my glas adjusted, now I just need to do the softtop when the weather warms up.
Like wattac2 said, get an assembly manual and have fun. It is actually pretty easy.
If you already had the top replaced, you might be somewhat out of luck. Often times, the top frame/bows need adjusted PRIOR to replacing the top.
If you need to adjust the top frame now that the new top is on, you'll likely cause wrinkles, etc. Hopefully, you might be able to improve the window fit by adjusting the windows by themselves. You can spend HOURS, even DAYS adjusting the windows.
Buy the AIM. The window adjustment process to way too complicated to try to describe. It's like trying to tell someone who has never worn a necktie how to tie a Windsor knot over the telephone. Chuck
I was once told that originaly at the factory , one fellow would hold the glass in place with suction holders, while anoughter fellow tightened the adjustment screws. Does anyone know if this is true or not?. and if so can it be done again after all these years to readjust the windows???
