tack reads 1,500 hundred rpm, but the car is really at 800 or 900 rpm.at about 5000 rpm,the tach reads 6,500.what fix do I need? Also wheel hops when i let the clutch fly. has new sping,bushings,shocks,P275-60-15 T/A radials. need help with that also, thank you
Assuming this is a mechanical tach, you need to remove it and have it calibrated. The pros have ways to adjust the magnetism in the drag cup and in extreme cases replace the main springs.
DO NOT TRUST CORVETTE CLOCKS BY ROGER!! Myself and two friends have batted 0 for 3 on his recent work.
I'd try one of these guys - The first outfit did a nice job for me on a Cutlass Tic Toc Tach:

it's the electronic variation, if the car is a 1976.
If it has an aftermarket replacement circuit board, then calibration is probably all it needs.
If it has the original circuit board, then it can be re-calibrated... but no one (in their right mind) would warranty the calibration work... as original circuit boards did not age very well.
I will calibrate any 1975 or newer C3 tach for $45, including return shipping.
