Default low buck 454???

I getting ready to throw a low buck 454 motor together to put in my 70 camaro ( I robbed the 383 from it for my vette) I have always messed with small blocks but I got a 454 the other day for next to nothing and I need some input on what hyd. flat tappet cam grind and how much lift can I go with with the stock rockers and good springs? how much compression do I need? I will be running race gas, heres what I have now: stock 1980 454 truck motor, 049 open chamber heads stock valve size, a holley strip dominator high rise single plane intake with a 750 double pumper carb, 400 trans with 3000 stall convertor, 4:11 rear, the car weighs around 3500lbs, this is just going to be a beater to run at a local strip, the car will have 9" slicks on it, What cam grind etc.. do I need to get this combo in the mid twelves?

Congrats on the Big Block/

For pump gas I'd stay around 10:1 +/- compression and over all power. As far as cam selection it depends on how choppy you want the idle. If it will see street use I'd say a 270-280 duration should fit your needs and yet offer a good street charactericts along with plenty of vacuum to power brakes and wipers.

If it's track only the skys the limit on how agrressive you want the cam. With a BB, single plane, 4.11, TH400 and slicks mid 12's will be EASY and 11's won't be hard at all.
