Where would the power steering fill hole be in my 1979 L-48? I was doing my pre-spring fluid checks, and actually couldn't locate it. What am I missing? (other than my mind... )
I have to remove the alternator bracket that's attached to the head in order to check it. A shorter PS belt may give enough clearance to "slide" to slide the cap/dipstick out. BTW I also have a 79.

I've got a 79 too...glad this came up. It's quite a PITA to check the PS fluid. Any one got any short cuts? It's truly a Bad design....but...
On my '78 the belt is so long that the alternator is bolt at the end of the braket and it's a challenge to remove the cap. When i fill it i use a small hose that i added to a funnel and find my way down to the PS pump.

I'm glad to see I am not the only one who has had trouble checking/filling the power steering reservoir on our 79's. GM needed to provide a remote reservoir or a better design to allow access to the PS cap. I've wondered about a different belt, but the Alternator bracket seems to be the cause of my interference.

Mine''s not really much of an issue. PITA maybe, but tolerable. I unscrew the cap 90* to get it out, then immediately turn it on it's side under the alternator. It will come out then just fine.
To fill it up, I use a looooong ATF style funnel and force it into the pump resevoir past the alt bracket. On my car it needs to be bent about 1/4 inch or so then it goes right in and there's enough pressure at the top of the funnel to keep it steady while I pour it in.
Only prob is you still need to pour slow and easy because you can't see the level as you fill it up. So you need to pull the funnel out (rag under it) a couple of times and reinsert it to fill properly.
