Default The Yokes on me...

Found this when I pulled the differential this weekend...

Also it looks like the bolts I got with my new spring were a tad long...

I have no idea why the sideyoke failed as it was no more than 2 years old and I mostly drive like the 50 year old I am, no hard launches or screeching turns. I can only surmise it was a metalurgical failure.

I'm replacing the yokes w/ HD capped units and replacing the differential as there was other general wear. My question is can the cover be welded?
I just bought a used stick welder to attach the crossmember I cut out but have no experience with cast iron.

Not good. The yoke looks like original one that just failed? When rebuilt they only replace the tip, I don't think the yokes are machined that deep?
Use a new HD cover. Check with Muskegon, we ran a group purchase here a few years ago for $50 each I think.

Get a new cover. They are not that expensive. Cast iron can be tricky to weld if you don't have the knowledge or right equipment.

Save the cover and teflon tape your spring bolt, now you have a "handy" differential drain plug!

That will not allow all the fluid to drain. The hole is up to high. You need a hole at the bottom to drain all the fluid.
