Never was there a more satisfying shift than when that thing finally left 1st gear. The problem (as a forum member in my previous post suggested) was crud in the valve body. I disassembled it all, cleaned, and reassembled. However, this still leaves me wondering why this happened in the first place.
First of all, what in the TH350 transmission is gold colored and steel/iron? The first time I removed it, it looked like I had very successfully panned for gold. The little flakes were in the valve body too. They are magnetic. This is coming from a newly rebuilt transmission (less than 10k ago) The best I can figure is that the torque convertor I bought used already had this stuff in it?
Clutches: not metallic
Bearings: way too much, the trans would be toast by now
Pressure plates: not gold, but ??
Right now I'm just very happy it's alive again. Taking a 6 hour trip tomorrow, cross your fingers...
I think suspension when I hear bushings, do you mean bearings? The rear trans mount's metal plate is gold though...
If this much material came from the bearings, that thing would be vibrating or locking up or something serious. Trans was running flawlessly before the sudden loss of shiftage. Even with trans fluid wiped off them, shavings had a definite gold coloring....
oh I see, you mean the ones that control end-play? I have to confess I didn't measure end play when I rebuilt it, I just put back in what came out. Hopefully the new, thicker clutches didn't cause it to grind itself to bits...
yes, i wonder if there is a drop in torrington bearing kit to replace them??? and if they are OK for a DD ????? did you take out the 2 little cone shaped screen's under the valve body ????
