Default 76 steering wheel ?

Anyone replace their 76 steering wheel with an earlier C3 or aftermarket one? A steering wheel is a steering wheel right? or is it different or need adapters etc.

I think you need an adapter, I'm interested in this as well since I can't stand our 1 year only &%#*&^Y$)*$ vega steering wheel.

I used the 3"...the 2" leaves the column internals exposed when telescoped...which mine never is. I use the tilt to get in and out of car but I never use the telescope feature. You will want to retain your old telescopic adjustment ring since you'll need to modify it to become your new telescopic adjustment. You end up cutting off the actual ring itself and removing two of the three tabs and using the third tab as an adjustment lever that pokes partially through a slot in the adapter. If you need any help, let me know via PM or email.

The 1976 steering column is identical to the 1969 through 1975 steering columns. However, the steering wheel, attaching parts, telescope ring, etc are different. So if you can find an earlier steering wheel or if you can find a 1977-1982 steering wheel, you will need all the attaching hardware.

These two links will give you all you ever wanted to know about adapting an early or a later steering wheel and parts.

Actually - that wheel is standard on non tilt-tele cars too. Like my '79. I don't mind the wheel, but I like the other one better.

I thought that "Vega" wheel was only used on a 76. Your wheel is all black rubber splayed 4 spoke?

I changed my Vega wheel out using an adapter sold by Eckler's. However, you loose the telescopic function.

I'm currently in the process of getting the parts as Jim Shea described to allow the telescopic function to work again. Parts are currently on backorder .

Hey Jason do you know what adapter you used. Because I have telescopic steering but I want to get rid of it and put in a aftermarket wheel. I can't find a part number on Ecklers site. I need one for a 76

Thanks
