Default Exhaust System Finally Installed

The installation of my new exhaust system consisting of Dynomax headers, dual Magnaflow hi-flow cats and Dynomax Super Turbos is finally complete.

What I thought was going to be a couple day project turned into a month. Things started smoothly with a friend helping me install the headers. After we had them installed, I noticed the transmission crossmember had been been changed out to a 80's style with only a notch on the passenger side for the the exhaust. So I got an older style crossmember with the holes for the exhaust on each side of the transmission off E-bay. Then I decided to powder coat the new crossmember, slowing down the project for a couple more days. After installing the freshly coated crossmember on Sunday, I finally got it to the exhaust shop on Wed. The new exhaust system looks and sounds great. I haven't got to really "try" it out because when it was on the lift at the exhaust shop, we noticed one of the half-shalf u-joint has a small crack. It does seem to wind out a lot quicker when throttling up in netraul.

I got four new Spicer U-Joints yesterday for the half-halfs, so hopefully I find time to installed them this weekend. Until I get them installed, the 78 is parked.

Can you give some more details on the exhaust system you had installed? Did you have 2.5" inch duals all the way to the back, and how is the sound with the Dynomax Super Turbos.

I need to put new mufflers on mine, and am looking for peoples opinions that just had this done.

From your posting, you sound pretty happy with the results.

Hope you can share some more stories about the swap and results.

Same story here. Thought my exhaust project would be finished during my Christmas vacation (~ 1 week) .... 1&1/2 months later the job was finally done. Hate how projects always seem to grow once you get into them.

Yes 2.5" pipes all the way back. The Super Turbo's are suprisingly quiet, but sound great when you get the rpms up. I have the same Super Turbo mufflers on the 71 and it seems louder, so the cats must be absorbing some of the sound.

Had time to remove one of the half shafts and cut out the old u-joints today. Hope to get it reinstalled tomorrow. I'll snap a couple of pictures of the exhaiust and post.

It was nice again today so I did go for a cruise in the vert.
