Default Tearin Down the engine/transmission

its spring break for us college kids, and i decided id spend mine tearing my car to pieces and cleaning it up, repainting and taking care of anything that needs to be fixed or replaced. as of day one i have the passenger side down to the removal of the head. header starter expansion tank, all that stuffs out too, drivers side is almost there. i also removed the shifter and disconnnected the bellhousing and driveshaft for tranny removal.

i got a few questions tho as this is my time doing something quite so extreme to my car(at least for me its extreme). pulling the header off the drivers side is giving me some problems, part of the clutch linkage is blokcing it, any body have any helpful tips for this obstacle? also, how does one remove the crank pully? i got three bolts off with just the center one left but the pully will rotate with enough force, any ideas?

just so i dont leave you guys empty handed i got a pic of my progress so far, started at 1pm today and called it a day at 7. thanks in advance- Bob

you take the linkage out...it comes out really easy....as for the crank pulley...put the car in gear. block the wheels and then turn the bolt.. what college do you go to?

Wow you want to rebuild your motor and tranny? That's a lot of work to get done in a week! What are your plans for the rebuild? Joe

PS If you have the tranny and flywheel out, you can hold a big screwdriver across two bolts on the crank flange to keep it from turning. If you have an automatic, put a screwdriver through one of the big flexplate holes.

Ok- here are your instructions. Close the hood, back away from the car and high-tail it down to Daytona beach. Wait 'til your an old guy like some of the rest of us to spend a spring break rebuilding a motor. You have more improtant things to worry about!

Water pump. Buy a good replacement and paint it before you put it on. They are about $35 and made in good ol Panama City, Florida,USA.

Manifold. Bead blast and paint with POR 15 engine paint. You need to get all the old oil off it first.

Are you putting new heads on? By the time you rebuild the old ones the new ones are a lot cheaper option.

what is bead blasting? as for the heads im just looking to clean them up and repaint them, im not gonna be rebuilding anything unless it needs it, as for the water pump, i cant argue with 35$ dont you have to order por15 from somewhere? is there any stuff i can pick up locally. thanks - Bob

sand blasting, glass bead blasting , media blasting, walnut shell blasting....just another term for using a some sort of fine particles to shoot out of a nozzle at high pressure usually done in a container (sand blast cabinet) so you can recycle the "particles or media"...

your local auto store may have some high heat paints you can use clean the items first with a good cleaner that does not leave a residue or film i like to use brake clean.

I brought my intake manifold to a machine shop. For $10 he baked and blasted it like they do with blocks. Joe
