I have a 78 I am restoring. I am currently replacing all interior carpet. After removing the compartment doors and rear carpet I find myself looking at the unfinished compartment holes that contain the battery and the jack (one on each side). Are they supposed to be painted a certain color? It looks like they were sprayed silver originally but black overspay is over part of it as well.
My car was originally silver and so are the compartment spaces under the doors but I don't know if that has anything to do with the color or not. Anyhow, welcome to the forum.
Welcome from a fellow 78 owner! The compartment holes on my 78 is a dark blue that matches the interior. It is similar to the blue half of the sivler/blue color scheme on the car. I cant tell if that was factory or if the first owner of the car painted it. My advice would be to match the compartment hole color with the color of the new interior you are putting in.

On my 78 they match the interior color as well. Welcome to the forum.
