I will be changing the ignition system in my 71 L48 to an HEI system. My question is I have a rebuilt tach drive distributor converted to hei using a crane XR-I system and also have a Mallory Tach drive unilite mechanical advance.

Which distributor would be the best to use, I am also going to install a 327/350 HP cam, LT1 manifold, and a holley 3310.

Thanks
Ratsirt

I don't know anything about aftermarket ignitions, but I recommend keeping the vacuum advance. You will run cooler and use less gas when cruising. Joe

Your original tach drive distributor with vacuum advance is likely the better choice, but depending on the vacuum situation with a cam swap, you may want to change out the can for one that acts at lower vacuum.

When asked, Lars recommended I use this one on my 69 350-350. Jeg's number 121-8572. He also recommended using the MSD spark box in the system.
