OK do not bash me for doing this but I think it is going to be cool. What I am wanting to know is how much is a complete rear end out of a 1981 Vette without brakes and calipers worth? Is there a demand for these? I am pulling mine and tubbing it out. Just got my 15x15 Convo Pro wheels and Hoosier Prostreet Radials in. Will start cutting soon.
If I were to buy a later model rear, it would be the pre-79 dana-44's because of the aluminum case versus the iron one. They say the 81 can handle between 400-500 rwhp but I don't have the engine, time or money to take mine to its limits and replace it.
Not too much unless it's been rebuilt. A guy gave me one a few months ago.I'd rather use a 63-79 iron one.

You may get $200 for your diff, MAYBE $75 per t-arm, $20-25 per 1/2 shaft and $15 for both strut rods. But hey $300 can get you some nice 90/10 shocks for up front.

Keep us posted on how it goes!
I'm doing a similar-process on an '80 in the future (I'm in no hurry), and my best-friend from high school's dad used to drag-race big-block C2s in the '60s, long before the evolution of Pro Stock:
he wants to put an I.R.S. into a '50s-era pick-up as a street-machine.
His dad is a great guy, so I'm giving him everything from the frame-rails out-ward/down-ward when I begin.
