OK, this pops into my mind every once in a while when looking for especially TORX sockets/males/whatever....

also the construction 'standard' of square drive....

IF for over a freaking CENTURY now, somehow the olde outdated standard of Phillips cross head screws have gotten along forever in civilian life with just 3 sizes...1-2-3, and seldom if ever anything differant....

why in hell can't TORX get along the same friggin' way????

damn companies determined to sell crap and load up the toolboxes across the country....

Mind you I"m much in FAVOR of the METRIC SYSTEM, and support the changeover as in 60 years ago so I don't have to DEAL with it...
but there are limitations, and some crap just don't understand LIMITATIONS....

torx 1 through torx 45.....BS of the highest order....who the hell kidding who...

The 'standard' square drive or Robertson as we Canadians like to call it only has 3 sizes( 1 through 3) and we've even associated colours with the sizes for those who cannot read well or estimate sizes. ASk any trublooded Canadian Male for a "Red Robbie" he'll respond with a #2 Robertson screwdriver with a red handle!

AS for Torx, I totally agree with you, there are too many sizes.

Not that you really care but hes some history on the Robertson. Robertson was before Phillips and Phillips was made in response to the far superior Roberston, that could not be copied due to patents. Henry Ford killed any chance of the Robertson becoming popular in the USA because he refused to use the Robertson in the model T unless he owned the company.... Robertson refused to sell.

Somehow I just KNEW if I posted HERE, I would get that name of the square drive long since forgotten....

I think Robertson needs give Torx a good run for the money....
Torx is way off the list for common SENSE....

Yup, Robertson rocks! Far superior to Torx. It was the patent thing that killed it. So it's only known amongst Canucks -- kinda like a secret handshake

I thought the Robertson never became as popular as the Phillips was because if you get paint in there yu gotta pick it out while the design of the Phillips would allow the screw driver head to push the paint to sides so you didn't have to pick it out

Just be glad you don't see alot of torx bolts around

GM used "crossed-head recess" screws, not Phillips head because they did not invent "Philips Head" screws themselves.

My complaint with torks is the fact that the tool its self rounds off!

snap-on and stanly used to (dont have a set any more) make some REAL nice wooden handeled philips head screw drivers that worked so very nicely. Nowadays the screwdriver, and thes screw is a piece of garbage...

This is just a guess, but the different sizes of torx gives you alot of options with different head sizes and shapes (I used to work at a screw company)
