Converting Auto to manual
How difficult is it to do on the '81? I was discussing it with my buddy and we're not sure if they were originally designed for sticks or originally designed to carry autos. I remember that the 4-speed came standard with the auto at no extra charge, but that doesn't mean they weren't intended for the auto.
Any idea on the difficulty? I wanna put a 5 speed in just because it'd be great fun with a manual. If it's a big hassle I'll just settle for a 4 speed overdrive auto and be happy that it goes 65 at 1500 rpm.

We did it on an 82. after looking at the options we choose to use the Keisler setup - I think it was 4200 bucks for the whole thing. The tranny install was pretty straight forward - follow their dirrections - but the clutch we didn't have instructions - so it took us a while to get it done. all in all the whole thing took us about 1 week of 6 hour days

Well '82s only came with an automatic. '81 had manual or auto optional. I'm geussing it isn't too hard as long as you can get the car in the air high enough to work on. My buddy might be buying a house soon so I could be gaining a place to actually do work on it.
