Default Does it really hold 18 gallons?

My 75 lists the gas tank capacity as 18 gallons. I have limited miles on it and haven't run it out of gas but it didn't seem it could be holding 18 gallons since the guage would read near empty and I could only get 10-12 gallons in. No, I don't know how accurate my guage is. My theory is that the capacity is measured without the rubber bladder and maybe the bladder shrinks over time.

Don't know which it is, but I also only get around 13 gallons in the tank, 1 time I actually got close to 15 when parked with the front end downhill.

Markus - where are you?

I have a 75 also and complained about the same thing. What Markus said, if I can speak for him, is that sometimes the bladders will leak and some of the gas will flow out of them into the gas chamber, taking up volume. I haven't gotten around to checking it in mine yet because I have bigger problems to sort first.

I've run mine down to real fumes way past "E" and learned over time I've got five gallons in reserve...before the needle moves beyond "E" So from you'll are describing...you still got five gallons left!

Run it down and see what you really got!

I found out the hard way when my '77 was new to me. When the gauge reads empty...it's empty. Mine took 14 gallons to fill from empty. I would love to be able to install a 20-25 gallon tank in my '77...does anyone know if it's possible?
