I removed my old 350 automatic trans. and installed a new 700 R4. I need to extend the speedo cable about 6". Does anyone know where I can get an extension to screw on the the existing cable and screw it on to the trans. gear? I have run out of contacts. The next option is to replace the complete cable with a longer one. It is going to be a bear if I have to pull the dash out one more time.

ok but i'm not sure how your set up will be any differeent then the rest of us who did this and this is the first post i 've seen where somebody has or thinks they will have a problem....
Fevre. That would work for me but I wonder is the treads on both ends are the same as what is on our speedo cable and trans. gear.
Bobs77 vet. It maybe different because of year. Mine is a 66 compared to a 77. Maybe the c3 had longer speedo cables.

Good question, will have to compare if no one answers.
Fevre. I just got off the phone with MidAmerica. They said it will work on either the distributor or speedo cable. There are different ones for different years so make sure if you order one let them know what year it is for. Also they will have them in stock on March 25th. to ship out.
I ordered one.
Thanks for the lead.
I bought an 82 cable but it did have a tight bend due to the VSS adapter so I got a 90degree adapter and it works fine. You can get them from most of the catalogs.
That is what I am doing now in my 66. Installed a TPI system with a 700R4 trans. My problem was I bought the VSS that screws into the trans. speedo gear and then the speedo cable screwed on to it. The shift rod would not clear the VSS so I put on a Vss that goes into the trans. where the speedo gear is. The VSS was used in the early 90's in police cars. The new VSS says not to use a 90 on the gear so the next best thing is to lengthen the speedo cable.
Gotcha. Go to good auto parts store and ask to see the speedo cable catalog. Look at what you have stock for your car and then find one longer. Many GM use the same 2 ends you need. 80s 4wd Truck and Suburban have a nice 90 sleeve crimped onto the outside of the cable. They are probably too long though.
