Default Quick outside door handle question

Do I really need to the rubber door handle gasket? I am replacing my driver's side with a repro. I pulled off the original, and it didn't have the gasket. In addition, the repro I got from Eckler's doesn't have the gasket.

Can I just seal it up with something else, or do I need to order the gasket? I'm not going for an NCRS car.

Yeah, I think I'll call Corvette Center first. If they don't have it, I'll fashion one somehow. It's supposed to be nice this weekend!

Thanks guys!

Default Handle

Without the gasket the handle is just one more "Clunk" On return from opening. Rubber cushion it.

If for any reason your door handle should loosen up and slide around slightly, without a gasket it would scratch your paint, with a gasket you would have some protection between the door handle and the paint. Not sure what year car you are refering to but if you are going to the trouble of replacing the door handle you may as well replace the gasket as well. The gasket is not an expensive part.
