17" wheel and tire question
[B]I want to go to a 17" wheel and tire but I dont seem to see many tires meeting the stock 27" height. Are most of you running smaller tires?

A 255/50/ 17 will give you a 27" radius, but their are three downsides to that.........
1) because of the squarer shoulder you may find they rub on full lock/suspension compression at the front
2) if you want to go bigger in the back (ie 285/40/17) they will only measure 26"
3) they are limited tires in the 255/50 size.
The more popular size is 255/45/17, 26" rolling diameter...a lot more choices but you may want to lower the car a little to reduce the gap between the tire and the fender.
I have 255/45 in front and 285/40 in the rear ...have to lower it a little but it looks good.

Lowering a tad also gives it a better stance.

Hi: Just bought new tires for my 17" Colorado Customs on my '72 coupe. Found that Dunlop makes sizes where the side walls & treads all match. I went with 235/55R/17 on the front & 255/50/17 on the rear. The fronts are actually about 1/10 if an inch higher than the rears, but you can't tell the difference & these 2 sizes fill the wheel wells nicely & don't rub at all, even if you lower the car.

This is a good link for tire size information. You can get your tire height and width for the various sizes.
I am just getting ready to go the 17" size also and have found that the 255 x 50 x 17's are rather limited. I have a new set of TT2s' on the way

BF Goodrich KD 255/50/17 on 17x8. As stated before the fronts rub at left or right lock. On my '71 the parking brake cable was to close and used a big hose clamp to hold it to the TA (kinda bubba). I have since changed to off set TAs.
