Default 71 LT-1 or 72 auto?

Hi Folks,

I have a 1971 LT-1. What is your opinion of me selling this car and purchasing a less expensive vette so that I can put the extra money towards an expansion of my garage?

The reason I ask is becuase I just noticed a steel cities gray '72 small block automatic for sale. My LT-1 is steel cities gray and this is the only color I would consider.

And finally if both cars where in approximately the same condition, what do you think the price difference is?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Same condition, I would say your LT-1 is worth probably 50% more than the comparable base model '72.

[edit - adding my opinion of the trade] Don't do it The LT-1 is a fairly rare car and is a whole different beast than a base motor '72 with auto. Keep the LT-1, get a home equity line of credit for the garage, and don't look back.

If you are going to keep it stock keep the LT1. If you are going to modify it sell the LT1 and put the money into mods. I know I have devalued my LT1 by doing the mods I have done but I don't care about that. The only difference between an LT1 and base motor car is the motor, so if mods are in the future and you think your LT1 is worth some $$$ go ahead and sell. If it were me and the LT1 is in good running order I'd keep it. You don't know how much work the base motor car will need.

While I think the LT-1 is the more desireable car and the better value, selling it to free up cash (avoiding loans) and still having a vette is a sound idea.

It will come down to personal preferences and your ultimate plans. If the garage is a priority, go for it.

My advise is Keep the LT-1.....get a home equity line of credit if you need it for the garage.....and use whats left over to buy the 72.

If I could have another C3 (w/chrome bumpers) AND the garage, and avoid loans, I'd do that.

Thanks for your input. I think for now I'll stick with what I have. The cars runs, looks and drives great, starts everytime, and must admit it is fun to row through the gears. Of course my alternator just went, so on to a new thread to get advice on where to get it fixed.
