3963512 casting is for a 69 427 or a 70-76 454 I don't think it's a 68 block. You need to get the date code and the suffix off of the pad to know for sure what you have.
If I'm reading your info correct it looks like a 71 454

Will I have to remove the intake or heads to get the numbers off of the pad? All the numbers I gave in my previous post were off the back of the block where the transmission bolts up to.
Im not sure if the heads are original. The numbers are :
8933148 (under the valve cover passenger side)
A79 (pass. side)
H346 (Back of heads)
This motor was complety rebuilt several years ago. Im trying to figure out exactly what it is because I have to sell it.
It has APR Rod Main Bolts,
7 qt Moroso Oil Pan
Fluid Harmonic Balancer
Solid Motor Mounts
Cam is around 630
12.5 to 1 Pistons
Bored .60 Over
This motor was only bench ran and never installed in a vehicle
Thanks to the experts for your help
If anyone is interested in it, I can provide pictures.
The block number says that it is a 71 454. over the years somebody could have thrown in a different crank and called it a 427 actually more like 436 with the overbore.

No.... nothing needs to be removed... the pad number is visible by looking down past the head... at the parting line between the head & the block... at the front of the engine. If the area does not have a number, then the block was probably surfaced, and the number may be hard to read, or gone entirely.
This is the number that tells us what the engine was originally.
