A Targa roof is a removable roof panel between the A and B pillars. Basically the part over the driver and passengers heads.
The term targa is usally associated with a 1 piece roof panel such as C4's, C5's, C6's and Porche's, however the term also applies to the two piece panels such as C3's Camaro's and Firebirds.
Where do you think the term T-top came from. Targa sounded too european, so the Americanized version is T-top.
the "t" in T-Tops has nothing to do with the appearance of the top.
it's the appreviation of Targa. The C3 were all supposed to be Targa tops. but they NEEDED the stabalizing bar in the middle.
My 1974 Porche 914 had a true targa top, the major portion of the top straight accross the roof lifted off and went into the trunk, no muss, no fuss!
It had Pop-Up headlights too, Handeled like a dream, German engineering was top notch in the day, Bosh!
Oh and the top was made of fiberglass!
