Just got the Q-jet rebuilt and couldn't be happier. Smooth, even idle and great performance.
The problem I'm having is lighting this thing off after it sits for a couple of days. I've read about the fuel bowl core plugs leaking fuel out, requiring a lot of pumping and cranking to fill em back up.
Questions: How tough is this to fix myself? Does anyone have a schematic or picture of where the plugs are located? Can it be done without removing the entire carb?
I'd like to do this myself...rather than take it back to the carb shop.
I have to depress the accelerator usually once before cranking after overnight, twice sometimes after a couple days.
What are you doing ? (Never rebuilt)
I know nothing about Q-jets but I read an article a couple of years ago and they just used 5 minute epoxy and filled in a couple of screw holes.
It can't be good for the motor having raw fuel leak into it washing down some cylinders and diluting the oil.
I would make it a priority finding the leak and fixing it.
Take the carb off, set it on some type of stand and find where it is leaking.
I have a brandnew Quadrajet (Edelbrock) and believe this is kinda normal: After about 5 days, I would have to crank a bit until if fires up. Assume that the fuel just vanishes through the air after a while as the bowl vent tube is quite large.
Regards,
Thomas
