TT - Nice work, as always. I have to ask - since you are somewhere in the Netherlands, how cold is it there while you appear to be doing all this work outside?

It was really cold 2 weeks ago but today it was nice and sunny, about 15deg c. That's why I did it today, no rain..not cold. If the weather had been nice I'd have chopped it off earlier.
I only work on the frame outside, not the rest (fabricating stuff) but my new shop is going steady...a couple more weeks and it'll be finished.

Nice job on the frame and that shop is shaping up real nice. Looks like you will have plently of room in there.

It would have been larger but they wouldn't issue a building permit for anything larger than that

Default Nice garage.

Man i'm soo jeoulous i can't type. That's enough room to start a corvette business.
I like those allen head fasteners but are they enough to hold on the front end at hi speed? Looks like it could use some cross bracing?
Good luck. cardo0

Those fasteners are more than enough, there's 2 big allens, 2 smaller ones, a strap, the bolts for the rad support and I boxed that frame area, it isn't going to go anywhere. In fact, I can jack up the entire front by the end of the frame extension/hinge area without it even moving at the bolts. The allen heads are a lot larger than the ones that were in there originally.

I must be going blind. I can still see the spring pocket. You just cut a little of the outside bulge on the frame. The spring pocket is centered over the shock mount and your shock mount is intact. I really cut out the spring pocket, absolutely nuting left. I cut the down strap to the frame and then cut out everything under the upper shock mount.
Again I still see the spring pocket.
Wife is calling for supper. I will be back

I left it there for structural rigidity, it will be boxed over on the inside, on the underside the complete spring pocket is removed.
I cut off almost half the pocket on the outside (it's angled outward), it was not just a little piece.

My shocks will sit much closer to the spindle than yours, it clears just fine (I installed a lower arm w/ the shock in place, there's plenty of room)

It will look like this:

See where that "tower" for the shock goes into the otuside of the frame? That will go straight over that upper pocket area. No need to cut it out, it won't do any harm there and it will be stronger than stock. Under that plate that I welded on there's also more metal, there's a "beam" that i welded on the inside and it's double walled.

What are the dimensions of the shop?? Are you planing on putting a hoist in it???
Regardless of what you do put twice as many lights as you feel you will need and lots and lots of outlets. I put alot of outlets in the ceiling too so I can plug in directly overhead of most jobs.

I don't know the dimensions of the top of my head but it isn't as large as I would like (10 x 6.5meters I think) Since this stuff is situated in a rural area there is a building code, the shed has to conform to strict guidelines and it has to be in the same style as the other shop & house, the brick has to be the same, the doors and windows also have to be the same style (all dvided small windows) and the roof has to have slanted sides like the other shed & house. I would have liked a 15x7 shop but that was a no go, they didn't allow the roof as high as I'd liked it also.

I will put a 4 post lift in it and maybe a chain hoist. Lighting & outlets are not a problem I'll make sure there's plenty of them and a lot of high intensity lighting, have that in my other one as well (on one side only) The compressor, blasting cabinet and other stuff will stay in the other shop, I'll just pull an air line to the other shop (they are reasonable close to each other & I won't hear the compressor here and the blasting cabinet is heavy so it will stay where it is) so this one will be for building the car & parking the truck, the other one will still be the messy one I'll have a good bunch of 400V outlets, I only have 2 in the other shop but I have a very long (25 meter) extension chord for it...so no problem there. For the pressurized air I'll have those nice reels hanging from the ceiling on each side and also an electrical reel (those things that wind themselves up).

My goal with the car is keeping the glass stock and the rest not

I'm basically trying to get it as close to a full blown race car (GT1) as possible It needs to be so brutal that little kids will run crying to their mommies

I was limited by building codes and since I already had 2 other outbuildings on the property to 25 x 30 feet. I also checked if that included a basement and they said no. Since I was building on a slope I decided to add a full basement and can drive in the back side. My shop in entered from the front. So for a 750 square foot building permit I was able to build 1500 square feet.
I feel haveing the car in a upper level which is still at ground level makes for a drier shop, no condensation. The basement is for storage, the tire machine the compressor and metal shelving for different raw material and car parts.
My shop is strickly my own, no storage, no mess.

I would like to see more pictures of the spring pocket and what you are doing.

Couldn't do a basement either (hadn't thought about it), probably wouldn't be allowed but there's an old sceptic tank under there somewhere (old farm) and I don't want a water spout with "brown water" again..had that happen before and it was ...well less than pleasant

It's about 525sq.ft..would have been way in excess of 750 if I had it my way, the side isn't the majority of the cost, the window frames, door frames, the hand baked stones and the roof construction are...all to keep it looking similar to the house...damn civil servants. But 2 2.5 car shops should be more than enough.

W/ storage I mean car parts, it takes up more space in pieces than as a whole

I don't have more pics but will next weekend or so. Easter means 1 more day of tinkering I may remove that upper section of the spring pocket afterall and that stock reinforcement tab also and run a larger plate from the bottom up there into the "tower" that i still need to construct...damn you Norval now I have to chagne it again LOL
