Default Wiper speed problem

My wipers only go one speed - slow. Is there any way to tell if this is a problem with the switch on the dash or the wiper motor? Any input is appreciated!

I have only two speeds with the wipers. On top of that, the power antenna comes up when it decides to. I'm thinking it is a relay issue,as they have never been changed.
Same goes for the blower (vent), got every speed except max.
My horn once went out,and it was the relay. Think I'll change them all just for drill.

Check your ground. The wiper and the blower motor share the ground on the starter. My car was wired wrong and neither the blower or the wipers would work when the TH400 shifted into 3rd. Turns out the wiper and blower were using the tranny as a ground in 1st and 2nd, and the tranny was using them as a ground in 3rd. Took me two months and several books to figure this out. Probably the last thing to change is the wiper motor. You can check for continuity across the motor to rule it out. I would agree that it's probably the relay 1st then the switch second. What year car? The switch in the early C3s is very simple (I pulled my old one apart, and was pissed that I spent $20 on a new one when I could have refurbed the old one.) Gotta love electrical problems.

Sorry about that - it's a '71. I've got to remember to turn on my sig...!

I'll check the ground and then look at the relay before messing with the switch. I've had the switch out before - but looking at it didn't tell me much. I suppose cleaning all the contacts wouldn't hurt, either.

Thanks!

for a '72 at the switch there are 3 wires:
Lt. Blue - Common motor on. When this wire is grounded the wiper motor turns on. It is grounded for both low and high speeds.
Black/White - Low/High speed sense. When this wire is grounded then the Wiper motor goes to high speed.
Dk. Blue - Washer pump. When this wire is grounded then the Washer pump operates.

At the motor there are 5 wires for wiper operation and 2 for the washer. the 5 for the wiper are:
Yellow - Wiper power
Lt. Blue - Common motor on. When this wire is grounded the wiper motor turns on. It is grounded for both low and high speeds.
Lt. Green- Low/High speed sense. When this wire is grounded then the Wiper motor goes to high speed.
Black - Motor ground.
Red/White - Wiper door limit switch and override switch.

To test the motor pull the electrical connection enough that you can see the terminals but they are still connected. Turn on the wipers and ground the terminal that the Lt. Green wire is connected to. The motor should go into high. If it doesn't then it's the motor. If it does then it's either the switch, the wiper door relay or a break in the wires somewhere from the switch to the motor.

To test the switch. Pull the connector at the switch, make sure the switch is grounded, put the switch on high and see if the terminal that the Black/White wire is connected to is connected to ground.

The wiper door relay is so that when you turn your wipers off they park in high. I don't think its the relay since if it was KIA then when you turn your wipers on the relay doesn't activate and all you would get is high speed. I guess a good question would be, do your wipers speed up during the park cycle?

Hope this helped.
Good Luck

Besides checking grounds, you can directly provide 12V to the wiper motor - that takes all of the switches, interlocks, and relays (if any).

If you provide a good ground 14 ga or bigger (12 ga, 10 ga) and similar ground wire the wiper wll run as fast as it will ever go.
