where can i find out what a 75 convert is worth? needs work, as in carb needs rebuild and brakes need to be gone through, body is in great shape has soft top and hard top. is a 4 speed worth more than a automatic?? car has been in storage for about 10 years now, moved around the place but never driven on the road in the past 10 so master cylinder is now leaking down and carb needs rebuild. any help would be appreciated as i would like to buy and get going again. love my c4 but would love a convert. thanks
Pricing will vary. I would look at the price of what a good 75 vert sells for. Then deduct from that price the cost of the repairs that would be needed to get it into good daily driver condition. When you state it is in storage, I get the impression that it was in some type of garage versus haveing a cover thrown over it while it sat outside.
There is a C3 just a mile from where I live that has been sitting outside for about 10-15 years. The cover basically just rotted off the car over the last year or two. It looked like it was a nice custom vette when it was done many years ago. I have always been tempted to stop and make an offer on it but I can see it will need a lot of work from sitting and being neglected. The car is probably worth $1000 due to the neglect. I feel the owner would be insulted if I only offered what I think it's worth.
Getting back to the car you're looking at. Just keep in mind that the Real Cost of the car will be what you initially pay for it plus the cost to repair it. Although one car may initailly cost several thousand less than another, it does not automatically make it a better deal. Many cars that have been sitting for that long will need more work than just a washing and a check of the fluids.
bought my 75 coupe,sat 11 years,some years ago , 55000 kilometers(30,000) miles
not smashed, needed interor. paid 4,500 cdn . about 3500 am. drove it out of the yard with inspection sticker.am now 17,000$ cdn. into it and will have it out in the spring.at last.
If it is a 350 auto tranny.. and has been sitting for 10 years.. I am in the 2500 to 3000 range. The engine might run, but transmission shifting, all new brakes,, suspension,, tires,, exhaust, it all adds up, I would expect to buy a "driver" for $4500 or so and have test driven them in that price range. The "driver" need seat repairs and a steering box, but otherwise basically a daily driver. Don't let the word "corvette" in the barn make you pay more than it is worth. Now if it is a 66 427,, 70 454 ,, 57 fuelie.. etc might be different, but 70's cars for the most part are smogged to death low performance.
Here's my 2 cents. I just bought a 74 vert for $13.5. Looks real good but I wish it was better. I point out flaws to people and they tell me I'm crazy, it looks awesome. I'm now thinking about a paint job ($6k at the lowest), engine mods such as intake, carb, exhaust, cam ($2k), other miscellaneous stuff ($1k). Total of $9k therefore I would have $22k or so in car. If I had to do it all over again, I wish I would've bought a car that was $16 or $17k with all the above already done.
As for the carb, you can get a rebuilt for $200 and be fine. Brakes I'm not sure about. As for the corvette calculator website, it was probably right on about a year ago, now it's low in my opinion. 4 speeds are worth a little more than autos. The earlier the c3 the more expensive it is. The least expensive verts are the 74 and 75's. I'd buy a 74 before a 75 because they put cats on 75's I think and the horsepower on the L-48 is 25 less.

A decent car will cost $6,000 to $9,000. By that I mean it is in good mechanical shape. The $6,000 one would probably need a little attention. A nice car will be in the $8,000 to $11,000 range, plus a little more for a convertible.
Vettes in the $2,500 - $3,000 are the ones most people will want to stay away from unless you got a lot of time and money. Those are the ones you may hear some say something like "I wish I would have spent $3k-$5k more and got a much better vette". Many times those are cars with tons of pieces missing, poor or no paint, suspension problems, wore out engine, interior that looks like a dog lived in it, modded by Bubba and family, etc... Essentially these are parts cars that someone tries to resurrect because they think it was a great deal.
