While re-building my front end, I've decided to change my (nearly) new brake pads. After having the brakes done (new calipers, rotors, lines & pads), the car never stopped quickly. Don't know how to explain, exactly, but it seems the car doesn't screech to a stop when you jam on the brakes. Almost as if the pads were oiled.
Anyway...when I removed the rotors today, I discovered the pads looked "glossy". Can I sand these before re-installation, or should I get a different type/brand. Although I supplied the calipers, I believe the mechanic who put everything together installed the cheapest pads possible.
go to Napa and get the part # AE-727. they are the best pads ive ever put on my vette, and when you want to stop, you stop. plus they have Lifetime warranty "from defects and stuff of course". they run like 30 bucks or seomthing, but they are worth it, and they wont wear down super fast and glaze over like cheap pads will.
I need to do something about my rears. There is plenty of meat on them but they squeal. Sometimes even when my foot is not on the brake. Crazy piston springs!
Aimco which is a division of the past Dana corporation, makes a great pad. It is a premium organic pad that runs $33.50 per set. Little dust and great stopping power. This pad is an installer pad.
does anyone prefer semi-metalic over organic or visa-versa, and what have been your experiences with either or?
Organic are good to the rotors. Metalic eat the rotors. Organic fade quickly with heat so one really hard stop is fine but 3 or 4 in a row and they fade. Some metallics get better with repeated stops but again I found them hard on my rotors.
Pads can be sanded easily, suprisingly on a belt sander you can quickly deglaze them. Just be careful or you could ruin their parallism to the backing.
I run Hawk brake pads and love them. They have four grades to choose from. Street to all out racing pads. I have their street pads, stops very good, very low dust (even with my cast aluminum rims), and low noise. Their expensive, but I love them and will be a repeat buyer.

May be a simple suggestion and something you've tried... but have you put some dielectric grease on the back of the pad where the pistons make contact? I did that when I rebuilt my suspension and they're completely quiet.
