I installed a Steeriods unit on my '71 this weekend. Installations was straight forward and pretty easy. The car is still on jack stands for a couple of more weeks while I finish brakes and other suspensions parts. Now on to the questions.
1) The steering wheel turns easy and doesn't bind, but makes a clicking noise at some points during rotations. I believe it is at the intermediate shaft moving in the rod end. Is this normal?
2) The left tie rod bolt head on the bracket just touches the left lower A-arm at full right lock. Without the lock washer installed. Is this to close? Do I need to modify the bolt head (turn down in lathe) or grind a little off the A-arm (it touches on the lip below the bushing).
1, did you put that little allen set screw in? (i think it had one, been over a year since mine was installed)
2, I would grind the A arm, but only after doing some more research on why it is hitting. Doesn't sound right to me. Might be a small sign of a more serious issue? just guessing here.
2. This seems to happen in some cases (cars of this vintage weren't built to the tolerance of modern vehicles). If minor grinding of the a-arm can solve the problem, give it a shot. Ask Speed Direct about this, too.

i have no clicking but idid grind a little bit on my drivers lower a arm lip...idid it with a file we are talking about maybe 1/16 ".....you could try loosening every thing up and pushning the rack back a little..it may help...i just went the grinding route....
