78 Pace Car Question

I have an L82/4spd Pace Car, It appears that the shifter boot cover has been replaced, It is currently black. I have seen silver ones on pace cars and black ones. Does anybody know what color is origional? I think the silver looks nice with the interior but would like to use what ever is origional.

At least on the automatic Pace Car the boot is black. Help any?

I was lucky enuff to see an all original pacer at the Carlisle auction with 5.6 miles on the clock! And yup it had a black shift boot.

Stock is black. Some of the Corvette suppliers sell them in colors, but I have never seen one being judged at Blooomington Gold with a silver one.....
