Default Newbie - With questions!!!

Hi All

Been a member for a little while now and thought it was about time I introduced myself.

Don't actually own a corvette but I have been in to them for as long as I can remember. My original dream car was a 25th anniversary 78 but as I have matured I have learned to appreciate the style of chrome. You guessed it, I'm on the hunt for a 69 - 72. Why not a 68; because it doesn't have the cool door handles I am after a non numbers matching big block (hopefully) that is driver quality because I intend on doing it up myself for shows and drag racing.

Unfortunately for me I know next to nothing about corvettes. That makes me a sucker so I will probably be asking lots of advice in the future both before and after I have purchased a car. Hopefully in a few years I will be giving more advice than I ask for.

I am currently figuring out how much I have to spend so I have a couple of questions.

What should I expect to pay to have someone check out a car for me?
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what it costs to ship a car to Australia?
Anyone from Oz know what the costs are once you get a car on Oz soil?

Being a bit lazy because I could ask shipping companies, etc but I thought I can't introduce myself and not ask any questions

Oh yeah, before I go, I am a member of a number of enthusiast forums and this C3 forum is by far the funniest and friendliest forum of them all. Keep it up. I hope to be joining the community soon.

Cheers for now.

There are a number of you down-under types on the board, so I'll let them speak to that part of things (though I will mention that I've heard it mentioned that it's pretty pricey to convert a vette to right hand drive). First thing you may want to do is cruise around this site, paying particular attention to the the "Guide to Buying an Older Corvette" in the "Misc" section and the "Just Got My Vette" section: http://www.corvettefaq.com/

One book that a friend loaned me when I was looking for my car was The Corvette Black Book. A new version comes out every year and has loads of information about the cars.

Also talk to people who own the car that you are looking for so that you know what to look for when you buy. I did this and looked very specifically at 5-6 things before buying.

Also check out:

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/index.html

Do your research and look at the car carefully.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Wow, looks like I have a lot of reading to do

I thought I was doing all right by watching this forum and seeing how the pros do it. I didn't even think of looking in the new ownership sections :o

Well, off to do some research... I mean work....

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any answers to your questions but welcome to the forum, there is a ton of information here, and people are always willing to help! You may have to wait for a reply sometimes but it is worth the wait. I've learned a lot here!

I can't get the FAQ to work

Is this done on purpose to prepare new corvette owners for things to come?
