I recently had my car painted and just got it back about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I was hurrying the guys up, so I got it back with paint dust on the motor. I put water to it at first so as not to hurt the paint after a week or so had gone by. Now that it has been about a month, how do I get this stuff off? I have some gunk engine brite but I don't want to hurt the paint. The water only made it look a little better. What should I use?
Elbow grease? Sorry I could not resist. I would be afraid anything that disolves paint will be bad for everthing else. Good luck. I bet it is not paint dust but overspray which can be a big pia. I had it on my cars finish when I bought it. I had to block sand with 2000 grit paper, then polish and then wax.

Depends on whether it is dust or splatter. If it is dust I would get some mild detergent in some warm to hot water and attack the engine with a toothbrush/nailbrush and see how it goes. If that doesn't work you may have to consider sanding the engine to get the crap off and then re-painting it.
Its mainly on the intake and valve covers I would guess.
