Default TIP: Rear Leaf Spring Mounting Kits

I've been pricing the spring end mounting kits and most are over $30. The Grade 8 bolts are what costs you.

My old spring end bolts, old castle nuts, old flat washers, cotter pins (new), and two of the cupped retainers (NEW) are in reusable condition; Bolts and washers just need some clean-up. I'm going to drop some $ on the following items only to refresh that area with purchase from Van Steel (prices from my 2004 catalog):

Rubber cushion 4 @ $2.99 ea.
Cupped Retainer 2 @ $2.99 ea.

Total before tax (I will pick up) = $18

I won't save alot here but I figure every $10 saved in one place can be spent in another...

If you don't know how old the spring end bolts are, then I would highly recommend that you change them. I've seen/heard too many stories about these giving up on the road. The bolt is the only thing holding up that end of the car before you get to the bump stop.

You may have challenges getting the cupped retainer out, as it may have pinged itself to the arm and/or spring. First time I encountered it, I thought it was one piece.

The cupped retainers in the t-arms are new. I may leave the retainers in the springs if they don't budge. The bolts are fine.

Can the 8 inch long leaf spring bolts be bought at a local hardware store...as long as they are Grade 8?

I bought some 8" bolts at a fastener place... hardware store won't probably carry that size of bolt or length.

I paid around $30CA for the 2 bolts and jam nuts.

If the cups are not rusted through and they don't spin, you don't need to replace them.
