I am VERY CLOSE to buying the GM Crate 350 engine. I just purchased one of those 2000lb rotating engine stands... as I plan on dressing-up the engine before installation.
What bolt size & length do I need to mate the two to each other ?
The block bell housing bolts are 3/8-16. Probably need 4.5"- gr 8 bolts. Be sure the bolt doesn't bottom out in some of the holes. The end holes are through holes,BTW.
When I looked over the selections, only the 2000 lb stand had big-nice-hard wheels.
I haven't unboxed it yet, I can exchange it for a 1000lb stand. The motor will eventually be complete - carb, starter... Would that one (1000) be sufficient ?

You might want to wait until you get the stand to see what size you'll need. You may also need some large washers as well.
I agree on waiting until you have the stand you're going to use to buy the bolts.
I like the 3 legged stand, although they can topple over if you're not careful. The 25 year old 3 leg stand I have is great for SB,TH400's, and differentials. It's taller then the U shaped stand I have and made better. Of course the 3 leg stand was made here in the USA where as the U stand is your cheapo import. It's something I leave a rear end on but don't like it for an engine. The better quality stands are worth the money.
OK, I took the $90 2000 lb stand back to Harbor Freight, and opted for the 1000 lb model. I realize that probably the 1000 lb model may be an overkill, but to my surprise it just went on sale today for $40 !!!!
So I got a big chunk of change back.
Thanks for all your help.
Now, please keep your fingers crossed for me - that the GM Crate Engine deal doesn't fall through...
