Default 75 vert door/window fit

Here's one for you C3 body experts. I have a 75 vert, never hit, no frame rust, nothing sinister at all that I can detect. The front door gaps are a little too wide to suite me, though on the driver's door , it's probably something I can live with. Right side, is way too wide, almost 1/2" at the top. Now it's no great trouble to loosen the hinges and move the door a bit forward. been there, done it several times. Trouble is that with the windows adjusted back as far as they will go, they are too far forward. I have even slotted the adjusting bracket a little and gotten them to go back another 1/16-1/8", but still too far forward to work properly. They also need to roll up another 1/8" or so, but of course that makes the forward edge come even further forward. I may try to post some pics to illustrate all this if it isn't clear. Any ideas? Anyone else got this problem? I looked at a 69 vert Sunday the was a real POS body wise, but the windows and doors sure fit nice. Rest of the body needed major work. Looking forward to seeing your suggestions, guys.

Its a GM quality control issue when they built these cars. Someone a while back mentioned that people were litterally buying these cars of the back of the delivery truck when they turned up at the dealers. GM was cranking thm out real fast and had real issues with body gaps.

I have the same problem with my car. My drivers side gap is good but the passenger side is very small. You can solve it by shimming the body, moving the door around and adding or cutting some fibregalss off. I have my drivers door perfect now but the passenger doo I need to adjust the body mounts (3&4) and probably grind some fibreglass of the rear endge of the fender.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear. I ahve to grind mine which I am not looking forward too!

Pete

ps Where about in Alabama are you? I am going up to Sylacauga this weekend.

When you say you moved the window as far back as it will go, have you tried tilting it? The lower bracket (letter A on the diagram in the attached thread) is the one to loosen to get the window tilted, read the text on how to if you haven't(I assume you have a service manual with the detailed instructions). When I was trying to readjust mine, that tilting allowed it to go up further. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm aware of the poor body panel fit on the cars when new. I had to grind the rear of the door since it was hitting the rear body in a couple of spots. I need to moce the door forward about 1/8" or a tad more. Trouble is the window. It's almost like the window was too wide.

On my 75 Convertible the passenger side window fits good, but doesn't go up far enough. I have the stops up as far as it will go but I have a 1/4 inch gap along the top where the window meets the top.

I have all new weatherstripping on the roof. I need to find a way to space the weatherstrip down from the roof.

There might be an easier solution. If your window will go back in the door further, it will allow it to come up further. Also, you may be able to lower your top frame a tad in addition to moving the window back. Mine needs to come up about an 1/8", to be really where I want it, but the fit on the windshield w/s is the critical problem I have. I haven't replaced the soft top weatherstripping yet, but I think I still will have to move the window up a small amout to get the fit I want. I think I would trade fit issues with you, because i think yours can be rectified with a few minor adjustments.

How would I lower the top frame?

Just loosen the attaching bolts on the frame and see if the frame will go down just a tad without messing up your other adjustments. Don't get it too low or the back edge of the door will hit the bottom of the frame. You probably can't move it much, but if you can get an eighth inch there and another eighth by moving the window back........ there's your quarter.
