Default Heat riser

Is it possible to remove the heat riser from my 80 L48? If it is possible what does it take to remove it?

I think that it's very possible. If you're running stock exhaust, you'll have to replace the valve with a spacer. The other alternative is to clamp off the vacuum hose or simply remover the butterfly from inside the valve. Many of these are locked up in any case, so you may not have to remove it if it's alread stuck open.

Unbolt it, replace it with a spacer. Paragon sells them. Alternative is to cut the guts out of the riser and turn it into a spacer.

To remove it undo the 3 nuts on the passenger side studs that go into your manifold. You may need to loosen your exhaust to get it to drop down enough so you can remove the riser.

i gutted mine and welded the pivot holes closed, the hardest part will be getting the 3 studs to surrender the nuts. mine broke and had to be replaced.

Ok i have another question. I took my car to the exhaust shop to find an exhaust leak and they said it's coming from the heat riser valve, will removing the valve get rid of my exhaust leak?

The heat riser spacer is available from most repro houses. The spacer is the same size as the valve but has no guts in it. The spacer was actualy original factory piece used on FI cars. If you have a leak caused by a bad heat riser valve, I would think the spacer would cure it.
