Default Is it worth it?

I just finished rebuilding the engine for my 70 vette. I honestly enjoyed working on the engine in my work room. It was very good therapy for me. My question is what are rebuilt Corvette engines worth? I found a 350 block and heads for a 1970 Vette, suffix lettering of CTG. Could I rebuild it and sell it for at least my expenses? Just asking!

It's possible but unlikely, unless you know someone who is looking for a rebuilt engine. I'm not trying to rag on anyone, but I believe most people would rather buy a rebuilt engine from an engine shop who does it for a living. You still have to pay for machine work and new parts. The engine builder has an advantage in both these areas and will be able to sell the same thing for about the same price as you. The big difference is they do it for a living and have all the correct tools to check the specs to ensure everything is within tolerence.
That does not mean someone cannot do it themselves; but it's tougher for someone, a buyer, to fork over $2000-$3000 to someone without a proven track record.

Apocolips,
Your best $ will be selling it as a core. The next guy will probably want to tear it down and see what is actualy in there.

You might get some satisfaction from overhauling it but I doubt you will break even. Still, not a bad thing to do with your free time.

you know what i do with the kids is take the old engine have them clean it strip it totally down, take everything apart, clean it throughly and then reassemble it with the old crappy parts.... it costs nothing and is actually alot of fun to do....this next one we are even going to paint...before we put it back togehter..so no i don't think you can get your costs back especailly if you have to have any machine work done....and then there is the liability issue of haveing the guy you give agood deal to come back after a bearing spins and complaining to you.....

Thanks for all of the input. You all brought up some things that I didn't think of. Liability for one. I would not be able to give a warranty and I thing that I would want one if I were shopping for an engine. I might just buy the core to keep someone from putting it into a dirt track race car and blowing it up.

Thanks again, I'll find something else to do with my spare time.
