Spongy Lifter ???
One... and just one rocker arms I am able to push down on the push rod side and it feels softly spring loaded. The others are tight and set.
This play is about 1/4 of an inch.
1. Can (should) a lifter get a feel of being spring loaded?
2. Does it firm up when oil goes into it or something?
3. Why only one and not the rest?
Thanks folks
The only time it would be bad is if you just ran the engine for extended periods and shut it down, pulled the covers and then found it. Then you might have to replace it. But if you did you would really have to look at the base of the lifter for concave/convex condition to get a read on wear at the base of the lifter. It is not advisable to use a new parts with old parts. I have but that was on luckier days. You probably would want to try replacing 1 defective lifter but you might fail the cam later. In either case if you didn't try it you would go with new lifters and have to replace the cam anyway. So best of luck.. 99 nassau blue.
1. What happens if you readjust the rocker to compensate for the lifter failure?
2. Can you still drive it easily for transport?
3. What will be the long term results if you do this?
