Got my new rotors, and will be checking runout this week. I've read here that guys use shims made from aluminum cans to dial them in. Do you make washer shape shims, drill holes and stick em over the wheel studs, or strips to fit between the studs?
Please post your method.
Thanks guys
Eddie
It is tricky drilling a hole in a thin aluminum shim. Good way to cut yourself. I bought a cheap set of gasket punches and use them to punch a hole in the center.
I cut a piece about 1 inch square and punch a hole in the center and then place the shim over the stud.
I used some .005 brass sheet I bought from a local bearing supply retailer--cost $1.50...I just cut out 2 inch circles using heavy duty scissors. I also cut out the middle circle that way. Used one on each of three studs, and got the runout down to 1.5 thousandths!

Eddie, I use SS shims and shim stock punch set about $50 worth of materials that will last you dozens of corvette brake jobs. Trying to do it with one size shim just aint going to cut it! Get the right materials and do it right. Look at MSC, McMaster-Carr, bearing house, Enco, etc
I just did front rotors a week or two ago and posted info on it, you should be able to find it with a search. They were USA made and had .009" runout in each one.
