Default Best replacement shifter/linkage??

The shifter and linkage in my 4-speed 76 is getting really sloppy. What is the best shifter/linkage replacement.........I would like to keep my stock console since I just bought a new one....Any install secrets????

Hurst makes a direct fit replacement that works great. Had one on my '75 till I went to the Tremec. Still have it in the garage (minus the handle which I modded for the Tremec).

I have the Hurst Competition Plus Shifter. It is a big improvement over the orignial.

I also used a "look alike" shifter arm and topped it off with a flameball ****.

Hurst makes multiple shifter handles. There is a model for corvettes. I
modified mine, shortened the handle by an inch or so, but that was personal preference. Ck the hurst catalogue for the different handles, if you want a different one from what is shipped for your application.

You can also just get a rebuild kit for your shifter with new bushings if they are worn out. Far cheaper than a complete kit or new shifter.

Hurst comp plus, if you want the factory look, several suppliers have a bolt on handle that looks just like stock( t-handle).

The catalog photo is generic. The Corvette model comes with a straight handle.

Stock shifter ? My shifter rattles around 3200 rpms. It seems to be the reverse lock-out and spring. Can I remove them and still to into reverse?
